Nuneaton Parish Church Choir

There has been a Choir at Nuneaton Parish Church in one form or another for over 300 years. This priceless part of our heritage continues to this day. Come and join us now and become a part of this unbroken tradition.

The present Choir consists of 40 or so members; Choristers boys and girls (aged between 7-16 years and usually singing treble),

Young people and adults who sing either Soprano, Alto Tenor or Bass.

The team is completed by the Choir Director, Organist and Organ Scholar.

The Choir leads the worship at all the main Services and other occasions, and is in increasing demand further afield, including recent trips to Birmingham Cathedral, Leicester Cathedral and St. Mary, Redcliffe, in Bristol.

Each August the choir spends a long weekend in Bridlington, a sort of mini-holiday including rehearsals for the Services at the Priory Church on the Sunday.

A token payment is made quarterly to the choristers, based on attendance and effort.  Weddings also command a small payment.

The full choir rehearses each Friday evening from 7.00-8.15pm, sometimes including sectional rehearsals, and on some Sundays before Services.

On Wednesdays the Voice for Life vocal training scheme takes place from 5.45-8.15pm, with children and young people attending sessions for the different stages of the scheme.

The Church is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music, a world-wide organisation with over 10,000 members.  The carefully structured training scheme called a ˜Voice for Life™ is widely used. Careful small group instruction is given in all aspects of choir work and the completion of the various stages are shown by the wearing of a medallion with an appropriately coloured Ribbon ranging from Light Blue, Dark Blue, Red and Yellow The prestigious Bronze and Silver Awards are shown by Green and Purple Ribbons respectively. These awards are equivalent to ABRSM Grades 4 and 6. The Gold Award is the equivalent of Grade 8.

A lively social diary including parties, trips and often sporting activities helps members get to know each other well, which, of course ensures good team work when learning new, exciting and often challenging music.

this wonderful opportunity of membership (it is useful if music is already being studied at either GCSE or A level but by no means essential). To find out more, contact the Choir Director.
