Mission and Outreach
The Bible calls followers of Jesus to share the Good News of God's Kingdom
and to demonstrate God's love and care to all. We begin with our own community, but
join with others across the world. Here are just a few of the ways in which we are responding to this call:
Local mission
St. Nicolas is a partner, through Christians Together in Nuneaton, with other churches in supporting the Sycamore Tree.
This local interdenominational trust runs a shop to supply Christian books and fairly-traded goods. It also runs a fully
accredited counselling service and sponsors the Youth-180 project which provides both full-time and
volunteer youth workers to schools and churches in Nuneaton and the surrounding area. See our Links page
to find out more about Sycamore and Youth-180.
Development and Fair Trade
St. Nicolas church supports Christian Aid and our members participate in the annual Christian Aid week.
As part of our concern for world development we encourage Fair Trade through our Traidcraft stall in the church.
Our policy is to serve fairly-traded tea, coffee and other refreshments at church-sponsored events. We are
presently considering how to participate in the "Eco-church" initiative.
Contact Centre
Saturday mornings we host a meeting place for children to
meet with the parent they don't live with, in a safe and
supportive atmosphere. St. Nicolas is one of the first contact
centres in the country.
Overseas Mission Partners
We also support the work of a number of organisations which seek to communicate the Christian gospel locally
and around the world. We support the Church Missionary Society, both financially and by prayer. We have a special link with one of their workers, Gail Philip,
who is currently based in Christ Church, Bangkok.
